RCD Solar Company, based in Sierra Leone, commenced operations in January 2005.
Following the end of Sierra Leone’s civil war, the national electricity grid faced significant challenges, resulting in a pressing need for alternative power solutions for small-scale organizations, institutions, shops, hospitals, and domestic homes. Small and medium-sized generators became a widespread but imperfect solution during this period. While they provided power, their drawbacks included high running costs, limited efficiency, and intolerable noise, especially during nighttime. The combined noise created an unsettling environment in neighborhoods where generators were standard.
The emergence of renewable energy, particularly solar power, offered a sustainable, quiet, and reliable solution for power supply on both small and large scales for businesses and households. Recognizing this potential, the Rural, Commercial, and Domestic (RCD) Solar Company was established to provide clean and dependable energy solutions for institutions, commercial enterprises, rural communities, and domestic households.
RCD Solar is overseen by a Board of Directors chaired by Mr. Leslie Nicol. He brings over 46 years of experience in engineering services and 8 years of professional experience in Nigeria. He now manages a successful civil engineering business in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Idriss Hammed, an Electrical and Solar Engineer with over 11 years of experience in the field, leads the company’s operations.
